Initiative Supply Chain Excellence

A Competitive Position for the German Aerospace Industry

The Initiative Supply Chain Excellence strives to support companies within the aerospace supply chain facing structural changes in the industry and to further increase their competitiveness as a vital part of the global aerospace landscape.

Supply Chain Excellence means the development of a stable and agile supply chain along all value creation stages and is an objective and task for all partners.

The initiative supports and develops successful national and regional activities and structures and actively interlinked them on national level. Thus, the close collaborations with politics, enterprises and associations is a central success factor for the global competitiveness of the german aerospace supply industry.

The six working areas of the Initiative Supply Chain Excellence

We are working in a structure of six working areas, whereas one partner is responsible for the lead of one working area, respectively. Niedersachsen Aviation leads the working group 'Business Models' and has developed a 'quick-check' to support business model analysis of small and medium sized aerospace suppliers.

Other measures are currently under development in the fields of 'Sales & Operations Planning' (lead by bavAIRia e.V.), 'Cooperations' (lead by LR BW e.V.), 'Finances and Contracts' (lead by BDLI), 'Internationalisation' (lead by Hamburg Aviation e.V.) and 'Industrial Performance' (lead by Hanse Aerospace e.V. and SPACE Germany).

German Aerospace Industries Association (BDLI)

German Aerospace Industries Association (BDLI)

Our main activities can be grouped into the following four categories:

  • Aviation and Aerospace Systems
  • Engines
  • Equipment
  • Material Science and Components.

Representatives from these four sectors form the Steering Committee of BDLI’s senior governing body. This ensures that the main activities of BDLI take into account the interests of all member companies. In addition, more than 40 expert panels focus on a wide range of topics relevant to the industry.

As the voice of the industry, we encourage our members to engage in dialogue with political institutions, authorities, trade associations and governmental bodies. As trademark owner and co-organiser of one of the world’s leading aviation events, the ILA Berlin Air Show provides members with a high-profile international platform that showcases the best in the industry.

BDLI belongs to Germany’s most important trade group, the Federation of German Industries (Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie – BDI). At the European level, we are members of the umbrella organisation ASD, the AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe.

In accordance with our statutes and role as a trade group accredited with the German Bundestag, BDLI serves on expert panels and committees and takes part in hearings held by the German parliament. BDLI combines the vast expertise of the aerospace industry in manufacturing, technology and economics and ensures its representation on the political level.

Competence Center Aerospace Kassel Calden (CCA)

The civil aviation industry and air transport industry are growing steadily for years and, for years to come. Both sectors have high requirements on established and new actors in the field: increasingly complex and global development- and production processes as well as high cost pressure characterize the market- and the technology environment. Apart from the technological excellence, the ability to collaborate successfully is becoming the key factor for the continuous participation within the booming aircraft construction and air traffic.

With that in mind, almost 50 companies and research facilites have gathered in the Competence Center Aerospace in Kassel Calden (short: CCA) with the goal to bundle, strentghen and market their abilities and ressources. Personal initiative and collaborative partnerships on the basis of spatial and content-related proximity are the key factors for success.

As a professional networking-, marketing- and innovational platform within the fields 'aeronautical engineering' and 'docking systems for the aviation industry', the CCA and its members have gained significant attention within the region and beyond. The foundation now has to be expanded and translated into market success and technological progress.
